What this does
Converts pounds to kilograms instantly. The pound is defined as exactly 0.45359237 kg, so the everyday shortcut is "divide by 2, then take a bit off": 150 lb → 75 − 7 ≈ 68 kg.
Typical pound values in kilograms
- 1 lb = 0.454 kg — a loaf of bread
- 50 lb = 22.7 kg — just under the 23 kg airline limit
- 45 lb = 20.4 kg — the standard US gym plate
- 150 lb = 68.0 kg · 200 lb = 90.7 kg — common body weights
- 2,204.6 lb = 1 metric ton
Why do medical forms want kilograms?
Drug dosing is calculated per kilogram of body weight almost everywhere in medicine, including in the US. If a form or a nurse asks for kg and you know your weight in pounds, this conversion is exactly what's happening behind the scenes — 165 lb is 74.8 kg, and a 10 mg/kg dose differs meaningfully if the units get confused.
Will my US shipment be weighed in lbs or kg?
Domestic US carriers quote pounds; international shipping, customs forms, and most airlines work in kilograms. Couriers round up to the next whole unit, so a 9.1 kg (20.1 lb) parcel bills as 10 kg — converting before you pack can genuinely save a tier.
Pounds, stones, or both?
UK body weight is traditionally "X stone Y pounds" (1 stone = 14 lb), so "12 st 7 lb" is 175 lb = 79.4 kg. The full converter has stone as a unit if you'd rather skip the intermediate step.
